Another Citizen Gone. Dr. T. S. Floyd, one of if not the first settler in what now comprises Harvey county, died in Santa Fe, New Mexico, last Thursday night. The cause of his death is said to have been pneumonia, yet persons acquainted with his habits there report that whisky was the principal cause of his death. Dr. Floyd came to Southwestern Kansas in an early day, and was at one time an U. S. Army physician upon the plains. His present farm near Sedgwick City, and where his wife now resides, he entered when the U. S. Land Office was at Iola. The Dr. was strictly a scientific man, and one of the best read men in the State. He had an active and retentive mind, and was an energetic and untiring worker, as also a fluent speaker and ready writer. His ability was beyond question. He was at one time a county comissioner of Sedgwick county when it comprised this county, and was at another time a commissioner of this county. He published the first newspaper ever printed in this city and county. An interesting history of his life, services and career might be written, for he was the orinator of Sedgwick City and its "God father" for years. We saw him last at Las Vegas about a year ago. Peace to his remains, as they lie buried in New Mexican soil.

Mrs. J.E. Gavitt Dead. Passed Away Wednesday Morning at 6 O'clock (from Wednesday's Daily).
The community was shocked this morning to learn that Mrs. J. E. Gavitt was dead. She passed away just as the clock tolled six. She had been ill some time but from the effects of a huge carbuncle, but not until yesterday morning did the physicians in charge of her case fear serious results. It then became apparent that her whole system had become inoculated with the poison, and that her death was a matter of but a few hours.
Miss Ruth E. Hopkins was born in Whitelake, Michigan, June 30, 1863, and with her mother moved to Topeka in 1884. She was married to J. E. Gavitt, January 6, 1886, and to that union was born one child, Ruth, who with the grief stricken husband and aged mother survive her.
February 1, 1890 the family moved to this city where Mr. Gavitt had been appointed foreman of the Santa Fe shops, and have resided here since that time, he in the meantime having been raised to master mechanic, which position he has held, until within the last few months.
The funeral services will be held at the home on West Broadway at 10 o'clock Friday morning, conducted by Rev. E. C. Beach, and the body will be shipped to Topeka at noon and placed in a receiving vault. The grief stricken relatives have the sympathy of the entire community, and it is especially extended to the bereaved husband who did not learn of his wife'd death until he stepped off the train at Newton, being at present employed in Denver, though he received a telegram yesterday morning to come home at once.
