Harvey's First Sheriff Killed
C. A. Tracy, a car repairer in the Santa Fe yards at Wichita, was instantly killed last evening while putting a new drawhead in a freight car. Two cars needing similar repairs were standing on what is called the "trip" track, and he was working between them when the switch engine, about a quarter of a mile away, threw another car on that track, and as the brake on the car was broke it ran up and struck the other cars and Mr. Tracy was caught with his breast between the drawheads and he scarcely knew what hurt him, his life being crushed out instantly. The deceased leaves a wife and a son, seventeen years of age, to mourn his loss, as well as many warm friends in this county, who sympathize deeply with the bereaved family. According to the Wichita Eagle, this is the third death in the family from railroad accidents, one son having fallen from a Frisco coal car near Augusta some time ago and was killed, while another was crushed to death at the Frisco "Y" in Wichita about three years ago. The funeral and interment of the deceased will take place at Halstead to-morrow. Mr. Tracy will be remembered by the older settlers as Harvey County's first Sheriff, and news of his death is received with sadness by all.
Funeral services over the remains of C. A. Tracy who was killed in the Santa Fe yards Thursday evening, will be held at Halstead at 2 p.m. Sunday. The remains will leave Wichita at 5:30 Sunday morning via the Frisco. -- Wichita Eagle.
