Seaman Leo Elmer Shepherd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claiborne Shepherd, of Richland township, Harvey county, was reared on the home farm. He enlisted for service in the Navy and was in training at Great Lakes Training Station when he contracted pneumonia, and died on February 4, 1918, in the United States Hospital, at the training station, aged 24 years, 1 month, and 9 days.
