David L. Hanselman was born June 7, 1889, the son of Frankie M. Hanselman.
David died in 1918, an Army Private stationed at Camp Funston, Kansas.
David is buried in Star Cemetery, Burrton, Kansas.
David Hanselman Dead. David Hanselman, a former resident of Burrton, died at the Base Hospital at Fort Riley at 8 o’clock Monday morning, April 1, 1918, from pneumonia. He had been seriously ill for more than a week.
The body rrived in Burrton this morning and funeral services were conducted at the Burrton Christian Church this afternoon by Rev. S.H. Barley, Pastor of the Church. The burial service was held at the Star Cemetery and was conducted by the Burrton I.O.O.F. Lodge. The deceased man was a member of the Turon lodge.
Mr. Hanselman joined the Army about 2 months ago and since his enlistment has ben stationed at Fort Riley.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Nettie Janes of Alexander, Kansas, and Nellie Bowles of Turon; one brother, Harry Hanselman o0f Wichita, and a number of other relatives and a large circle of friends. David Hanselman Died Monday. David Hanselman, of Alexander, Kansas, a Rush county man in United States service, died at a hospital at Ft. Riley, Monday of this week. Pneumonia caused his death.
Mr. Hanselman went to Camp Funston Feb. 25, 1918, with the last contingent of the county’s quota of the first draft. He was not drafted to fill the quota which was 10 men, but volunteered to go. Regulations permit 2 to go with the required number of additional men. Mr. Hanselman wanted to get into the service. He wanted to do his share in this great war to save the world from German domination, so his services were accepted.
At Funston he contracted pneumonia, which resulted in his death Monday. Mr. Hanselman had been living for about 2 years and before entering the service he was engaged as driver of one of the transportation wagons for the consolidated school there. His sister, Mrs. James, lives at Alexander. Burial was made at Burrton. The LaCrosse Republican, LaCrosse, Kansas. Thursday, April 4, 1918. Page 8.
Hanselman Funeral. Funeral services for David Hanselman, a soldier who died at Ft. Riley in the base hospital Monday, will be held this morning from the Christian Church at Burrton. Interment will be in the Star Cemetery south of that city in the country.
