Raymond Warren Engle, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Engle was born at Centralia, Oklahoma, May 28, 1921. Raymond graduated from Newton High School [Newton, Kansas] in 1940. He was prominent in music and dramatics.
Raymond entered the service on May 10, 1942 in the Air Corps Reserve. His training started November 6, 1942. He received his wings and commission on August 30, 1943, at Luke Field, phoenix, Arizona. He then took combat training at Ft. Meyers, Florida. He went overseas February 4, 1944 as a fighter pilot on a Thunderbolt, P-47. He was killed June 8, 1944 on a mission over France.
Raymond received the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters, the presidential Citation, and Purple Heart. (c) Harvey County Genealogical Society.
