Hubert Claude Adler, US Navy, died in WW II, on September 5, 1945 in the Pearl Harbor area of the Hawaian Islands, after falling overboard from his ship, the USS Takanis Bay . His body was never recovered.
Hubert was 6 ft tall and weighed 165 pounds, with “brown hair and gray eyes” in 1942 according to his military registration. He was the son of Andrew & Effie Adler of Newton, Kansas. He was born February 10, 1924 in Seymour, Texas. He was one year old when the family moved to Elbing, Kansas, and was six years old when they moved to Newton, where he lived until his induction into the Navy on December 10, 1943.
Claude Adler’s name is recorded in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii. The center inscription reads: IN THESE GARDENS ARE RECORDED THE NAMES OF AMERICANS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY AND WHOSE EARTHLY RESTING PLACE IS KNOWN ONLY TO GOD. He is also listed in Memorium on his father’s headstone in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Newton, Kansas.
