Drowning. According to Harvey County Sheriff Chad Gay, A 49-year-old man is dead after an accidental drowning in the lake near Camper’s Row at Harvey County East Park. The 911 call was received at 6:18 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, and the body was recovered within 20 minutes. It has been suggested that the man, with a friend, were attempting to swim across the cove after having been drinking. The man’s name is not being released until after family members are notified; however, as of Monday morning his name had not yet been released.
Victim Information Received. The name of the victim of an accidental drowning at Harvey County East Park was released by the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, identifying the individual as David Francis Maloney, 49, of Newton. The sheriff’s office waited to release his name until after family was notified. Around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, the incident was reported and Maloney was found deceased by Newton Fire/EMS water rescue resources. Maloney had said to a friend that he intended to swim across the lake. Maloney departed from Crown Point. The friend made multiple attempts to bring Maloney to shore, but was unsuccessful. Maloney was located by first responders about 75 yards from a nearby jetty.
