St. Luke’s history in Newton, Kansas began in the 1870’s. They wrote their history: “God has faithfully accomplished His ministry through this Body of Christ called St. Luke. Born from a church plant when Newton was a new railroad stop in Kansas, St. Luke Evangelical Church was established and met on Main Street in the late 1800s, engaging in city outreach and after school programs for local youth from the very beginning. For a church that has existed before 12 states were admitted into the union, before the automobile, even before James Naismith invented basketball, we know there is much we learn from those who came before us. One enduring lesson we have learned and want to share with you is this, St. Luke Evangelical Church is not a building, we are a redeemed people living in daily fellowship with another in Christ Jesus.
The faith of those who came before us has been passed down, generation by generation, to all who gather under the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And we invite you to remember that this is (and can be) your inheritance too:
“That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us [that you may share in what we have seen and heard]; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ,” (1 John 1:3).
