At least two people are killed in a crash Saturday morning in Newton.
The Kansas High Patrol confirms it is working the scene of one-vehicle crash at I-135 and the Southeast 14th Connector.
“A 16-passenger van carrying seven adults was traveling southbound on I-135 when it left the highway between the two bridges, went down the embankment, and hit the bridge pillar below,” the Newton Police Department shared on Facebook. “There’s no indication of why the van left the highway.”
As of 10 a.m., two people were confirmed dead. The police department shares that two other people are in very critical condition and three others had serious injuries.
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) has identified two people who were killed in a Saturday morning crash in Newton as 35-year-old Stephanie Manyseng of Wichita and 43-year-old Rudy A. Perez-Marcial, also of Wichita.
The Chevy G3500 was traveling southbound on I-135 when it the roadway and struck a KDOT guardrail. The van continued southbound and vaulted, striking the northbound bridge structure followed by a concrete embankment.
