Victor Jennings Davis
Victor Jennings Davis, 84, 816 E. Sixth, retired co-owner of Rainbow Neon Sign Co. and also accomplished jazz guitarist musician until 1989, died Wednesday (April 8, 1998) at his home in Newton.
He was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Newton to Orie E. Davis and Rita Sisco Davis. He married DeLoise Ward Sept. 12, 1950, in Walton. She survives.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He made neon signs for several local areas, which include: Dillons, Ross Milling, Ramada Inn and Crest Theatre in Wichita. He built a telescope and was interested in astronomy.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Victoria Gumpel of Petaluma, Calif., Lisa Davis of Newton and Phyllis Martinez of Ponca City, Okla.; one son, Scott Davis of San Francisco; four sisters, Wanda Nierman of Shell Knob, Mo., Naomi Fortney of Newton, Patricia Perkins of Wichita and Billie Barker of Hesston; one brother, Orie E. Davis Jr. of Bella Vista, Ark.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas V. Davis.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Keating from First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and until service time Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with the Alzheimer Association or United Methodist Urban Ministries in Wichita, in care of the funeral home.
