The Newton Kansan

Michael R. Jay, 54, of Newton, died Saturday (June 5, 2010) at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born on Oct. 26, 1955, in Newton the son of Raymond M. and Dixie A. Liby Jay. A lifelong resident of Newton, Mike graduated from Newton High School in 1973. In March 1974, he went to work at the Water Treatment Plant in Newton and retired on Aug. 7, 2009. Mike was an avid fisherman and enjoyed using metal detectors. Survivors include his two sons, Eric T. Jay and wife Josie of Lawrence and Sean M. Jay of Boise, Idaho; his mother, Dixie Jay of Newton; two granddaughters, Harper Louise Jay and Wren Frances Jay of Lawrence; and numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father in October 1994. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Private family internment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114. Friends may sign the book on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
