Solomon, John

The Newton Kansan

John D. Solomon, 55, died Thursday (June 24, 2010) at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1954, in Newton to John J. and Bettie (Dunn) Solomon Davis. He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in El Dorado Springs, Mo., in 1972.
On Sept. 3, 1994, he married Tammy Cramer in Newton. She survives of the home.

He worked for the former VIM Trailers for 22 years and was the parts service manager for the Truck Parts Co. in Wichita. He helped co-found and enjoyed working with his son at J.D. and Son Tree Service. John was a member of First Missionary Church in Newton, where he served as a deacon and in other volunteer positions within the church, including mowing. John lived his life serving the Lord.
He enjoyed restoring classic cars and was a member of the Cottonwood Falls Classic Car Club. He also enjoyed building his home in Peabody. John was a family man who greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, kids, grandkids, family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Solomon, of Halstead; mother, Bettie (Dunn) Davis of Newton; sons, Bobby Rose of Walton, Billy Rose of Newton, Joseph McMurray of Caney and Jonathan McMurray of Chicago; daughters, Crystal Loving of Locust Grove, Okla., and Sarah Solomon of Halstead; brothers, Joseph Solomon of Newton and Steve Solomon of Newton; sister, Peggy Wheaton of Antioch, Calif.; aunts, Shirley Solomon of Peabody and Mary Kimberlin of El Dorado; uncle, Clinton Solomon of Peabody; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, John Solomon; brother, Willard Solomon; two nephews; and his stepfather, Arthur Davis.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. A service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Missionary Church in Newton, with Pastor Ray Adams officiating. A graveside committal service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Flat Rock Cemetery in Schell City, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the John Solomon Memorial Fund in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
