Obituary

LaVurn M. Leithoff, 88, passed away Thursday (June 24, 2010) at Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born on Jan. 2, 1922, in York, Neb., to William and Amanda (Reich) Woods. On June 16, 1946, she married Ernest William Leithoff in Junction City, and he preceded her in death. LaVurn was a member of the former Peace Lutheran Church in Newton, and she attended Zion Lutheran Church in Newton. She was a retired baker for the Old Mill Bakery and also ran a baking business out of her home. LaVurn loved baking and cooking and sharing her creations with her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Ernest and Patricia Leithoff of Feeding Hills, Mass., Robert Leithoff of Wichita, Richard and Renee Leithoff of Wichita, and Gerald Leithoff and Mary Levell of Indianapolis; sisters, Evelyn Tinkhan of Broken Bow, Neb., and Shirley DeBusk of Broken Bow; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, including Jonathon Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest William Leithoff; parents, William and Amanda (Riech) Woods; brothers, Vearl Woods, Robert Woods and Forrest Woods; and grandsons, Timothy Leithoff and Kyle Leithoff.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with Chaplain Peter Hartman of Hospice Care of Kansas officiating.
Burial will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
