Ruth Ann Guhr, 78, passed away on Wednesday (May 19, 2010) at Newton Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 27, 1931, in Gotebo, Okla., the daughter of Arnold H. and Frieda (Funck) Brandt. In 1953, she graduated from Bethel College in North Newton as a registered nurse. She married Milton B. Guhr on Sept. 27, 1953, in Gotebo. They made their home in the rural Whitewater area until 1999, when they relocated to Newton. She was a member of the Emmaus Mennonite Church, active in Gideon's International and volunteered with Source of Light. She is survived by her sons, Michael and wife Lynette Guhr of Newton, Randall and Joan Guhr of Ponca, Ark., and Leslie and wife Lyndsay Guhr of Newton; a brother, Kermit and wife Gayle Brandt of Lawton, Okla.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Guhr, in May 2009. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater. Committal service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday (note change of time) at Emmaus Cemetery in Whitewater, with a Celebration of Life Service following at 11 a.m. at Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in Newton. Memorial funds have been established for Source of Light or Gideon’s International in care of Lamb Funeral Home, P.O. Box 358, Whitewater, KS 67154.
