Charlotte J. Wright, 74, retired Halstead Hospital registered nurse, died Tuesday (May 18, 2010) at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. She was born on Nov. 28, 1935, in Hooker, Okla., to Bernhard B. and Barbara (Loewen) Hamm.

A Halstead resident since 1959, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and former president of Sacred Heart Altar Society. She also served as president of Halstead Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, secretary of the Halstead Library Board and member of the Halstead Historical Society and American Legion Post 231 Auxiliary.

On Nov. 24, 1961, she married Gary O. Wright in Ulysses; he survives. Other survivors include daughters, Kate Hansen of Wichita and Kim (Joe) Klassen of Peoria, Ariz.; brothers, Michael (Jane) Hamm of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ernest (Sandy) Hamm of Blue Springs, Mo.; sisters, Bettie (Albert) Warkentin of Bow, Wash., Nellie Jost of Hillsboro and Freida Kidd of Everett, Wash.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Alvin and Roland Hamm; a sister, Rosina Mazzei; and a granddaughter, Sarah Melissa Hansen.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Steve Baxter officating.
Burial will follow at Halstead Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or American Legion Post 231 Auxiliary in care of Kaufman Funeral Home of Halstead.
