She was born in New Albany, Ind., May 30, 1878, to Thomas J. and Emma Cooper Jackson. Her parents came to Kansas in 1885, and Newton was her home for more than 63 years. Her father became prominent in Republican party politics in Kansas.
She married Dr. J. W. Graybill in Newton Jan. 23, 1901, he was a physician and surgeon, who later was twice elected lieutenant governor of Kansas.
