Anderson, David

History

I wish we knew more about this man. What we do know is that he was born in White County, Tennessee. He fought in the Civil War. He was in Co. I 14th Reg. U. S. C. T. He was in the same regiment as Mary's brother , Joseph Rickman and Thomas Alexander Mayfield.
It seems very likely that David was a slave, but I have no proof. After the Civil War David and Mary Rickman and their children are on the 1870 census in Clermont County, Bethel, Ohio. In 1871 they came to Kansas to homestead. David died in April 1871 while preparing a place for the family to live on their homestead. He is buried on the homestead until 1910 when Mary sells the farm. At that time all the graves are dug up and moved to Greenwood cemetery in Newton.
