The Newton Kansan

The First Baptist church, Newton, was filled to overflowing Thursday afternoon for the funeral of Mrs. fawn Manring who died at Bethel hospital Tuesday following a stroke of apoplexy. Members of the Eastern Star of which she was a member were present and their ritual was a part of the beautiful service conducted by Rev. J.W. Bays, pastor of the church who had the assistance of Mrs. Nellie Sturdeyant, Mrs. Helen Coulter, John Ragland and Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Sage in a musical way. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery in charge of Duff and Son the casket bearers being Curtis Garten, Ben McGraw, Walter Hupp, Milburn Dart. The obituary read as a part of the service follows; Mrs. Alice Aetna Manring, second daughter of William and Calista Trask Prouty was born Jan 12, 1872 in Harvey county, Kansas and died in a local hospital in Newton, December 29,1931, being 59 years,11 months and 17 days. She was married February 22,1897 to Fawn Manring. To this union five children were born. They are: Mrs. Thelma Deschner , W. A. Manring of 431 West Sixth, Newton, and Aetna, Madge, Omri of the home. Besides her husband and children she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Edna Brink, Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Bly Rose, Scott city, Kans; Mrs. Carrie Cheap of Ojai [Ohai], Calif. One brother, Atchison Prouty of Emma township, Harvey county. There are two grandchildren: Henry M. Dechner and Lois Susana Manring. She was the first white child born in Macon township and lived all her life in that township except four years when the family resided in Newton. She was a member of the W. R. C. and also of the Eastern Star. She was active in her community, a beloved mother in her family and extended her interests and activity to the best things in life. Besides her immediate family she leaves a legion of friends for her influence and friendship extended many miles around her home.
