Obituary

Opal Lily Cummings passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, thus ending a life of deep devotion and service. Mrs. Cummings, daughter of Frank Prouty and Ida [Clark] Prouty, was born in New Boston, Illinois, July 22, 1867. When she was four years old her family came to Kansas in a covered wagon drawn by an ox team where her father homesteaded in Emma township, and here she grew to young womanhood. She was brought up a member of the Universalist church. On Oct, 7, 1885, she was united in marriage to John Cummings. The home was blessed by four children; Thad, Glayds, John Jr., and Morris. Mr. Cummings and John Jr., preceded her in death. Nothing too good and too beautiful can be said of a life so wonderfully and energetically spent. Throughout her long illness she never lost her keen sense of humor and always had a smile for her many visitors. Her life was spent in deepest devotion to those who needed her. There was never a mother more devoted or who gave more love to her children. Her passing leaves a void so great in their hearts it can never be filled. With her at the time of death were her sons, Thad and Morris, her Daughter Glayds and her sister Mrs. Bessie Stapf. She also leaves a little grandson, John Andrew Cummings. Funeral services were held at the Morris chaple Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. Earl Minturn officiating. Paul Kliewer and Mrs. Dick Morris sang as a duet"Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" they were accompanied on the organ by Mrs.Charles Bachman. Pallbearers were, Willard Rodgers, Paul Shipman, George Wolz, Cliff Rousell, Merle Norton and Russell Gray. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
