Prouty, Bert
Bert J. Prouty was born in Newton, Kans., March 13, 1874, and passed away at his home 206 West First street, Saturday Sept. 7, 1918, following an illness of nearly two years. Mr. Prouty lived in or near Newton all his life with the exception of about two years when he lived in New Mexico. He farmed a number of years northeast of Newton. The near relatives who survive him are his wife; Bessie Prouty, seven children, frank, Opal, Joe, Thelma, Harry, Myria and Mildred,all at home; his aged father, Frank Prouty, and three sisters, Mrs. John Cummings and Mrs. Jacob Stapf of Newton and Mrs. Charles Kendall of Parsons. Mr. Prouty was a patiant suffered and was always appreciative of the devotion of his wife and children who did all that loving hands could do to comfort the husband and father during his many months of suffering. Funeral services were held from the Sprinker chaple Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. E. Henshaw of the Christian church. The large attendance of friends at the service and the many beautiful floral tokens gave mute testimony of the high esteem in which Mr. Prouty was held in the community. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Prouty was a member of the Woodmen of the World, the life and annuity and the Eagles lodges.
