Obituary

John Cummings Jr., the son of Mrs. Opal Cummings died at the family home at 507 west Broadway just before noon today of diphtheria. The burial service was at 5 o'clock this evening and of necessity, private owing to the nature of the disease. The many friends of Mrs. Cummings grieve with her in her great sorrow, although unable to do even the little things for her that are usually possible at such a time. John has had a sore throat since Tuesday. His brother and sister have each been so afflicted and had yielded to home treatment, and the mother cared for the lad in the same way, thinking it tonsillitis. This morning conditions became so alarming that a physician was called, and he made frequent visits through the morning but without avail. The Newton Kansan.
