Cummings, Morris V.

The Newton Kansan

Morris V. Cummings, 80, of 901 Trinity Drive, a lifetime Harvey County resident and a retired Santa Fe Railway locomotive carpenter, died Saturday [Nov. 19, 1988] at HCA Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at st. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Newton, with the Rev. Michael Combs officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born Aug. 3, 1908, in Newton, the son of John A. and Opal L. [Prouty] Cummings. On Aug. 15, 1927, he married Dorothy Weigand in Newton. She survives. He was a member of the church, the Elks Lodge and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen. He served in the state Guard for three years during World War II. Other survivors include one daughter, Deborah Lattimer of Newton; one sister, Gladys Cummings of Moundridge; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Thad. The Newton Kansan.
