Parent's Floyd and Pearl DeWalt Havens.Howard grew up and went to school in Newton.In his early years he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and then for the Kansas Dept of Transportation as area supervisor.In 1930 he married Lucinda Sattler and raised a family of 13: Clyde D, Vernon F, Virgil C, Harold E, Larry C, Janice, Phyllis J, Marilyn J, Shirley A, Hellen G, Sandra E, Jo Beth and Brenda S.
