Kansan, Tuesday, January 1, 1929


Franklin E. Carter, passed away Monday night, December 31, at 11:45 at the Axtell Christian hospital, where he had been taken suffering with influenza and pneumonia on Christmas day, he was 76 years old.

Mr. Carter, familiarly and affectionately known as "Dad" came to Newton from Leavenworth in the spring of 1908, and took charge of the book bindery office of the Kansan Printing company, and was faithful employee of the company until the spring of 1925, when on account of impaired eyesight he was forced to give up the exacting work of the bindery.

He was jovial, companionable and enjoyed life to uttermost, and was popular and well liked by all who knew him.


He leaves his widow at the home, 323 West Sixth, and one son Lawrence of Kansas City, who is well known here, and who was here at the time his father passed away.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. A. R. hardy, pastor of the First Baptist church, at the Sprinker mortuary, Thursday forenoon at 10:30 and interment will be made in Greenwood cemetery. "Dad" was an honored member of the Modern Woodmen lodge.

His passing has brought much sorrow to his former associates in the newspaper office, and even since he severed his active connection with the bindery, "Dad" has been counted one of the group at their social functions.
