Williamson, Josephine



Daughter of Samuel H. and Catherine Smith.
Josephine Williamson was born Josephine Smith to Samuel H. and Catherine (Kercher) Smith on October 19th, 1882 in Goshen, Indiana. She married Nathan Groom Williamson on October 20th, 1901. They had one daughter Josephine Lorraine on January 6th, 1903. In August of that year Nathan was tragically killed in a accident while on the job with the Santa Fe railroad. Josephine Williamson was a member of the O.E.S. and the Business and Professional Women's club. Josephine left Newton in 1939 to join her daughter Josephine and her husband Duward Shriver and their two sons in the Hawaiian Islands where Duward was employed in the civil service. While there she served as a memeber of the Gray Ladies Hawaii chapter with the Red Cross. She resided in Hawaii for about 8 years before returning to Newton in 1946. She later rejoined the family in California where she resided until her death on June 26th, 1951. She was survived by her daughter (Josephine Shriver), two grandsons (Duward Felix and Francis Nathan Shriver), one brother (W.K. Smith) and a sister (Mrs. Allie Bowlus).
