He spent his childhood days in and around Hardinsburg, Indiana. He moved with his parents to Woodford county, Illinois, in September, 1874, where his father died May 5, 1877. In January, 1878, John with his mother and family came to Kansas, living one year at Cherokee, and then moved to Harvey county in January, 1879. He married Myra Logan of Lomax, Illinois December 20, 1884, John and Myra lived in Harvey county until his death. He lived for a number of years ar 114 West First in Newton.
