Kansan, Monday, September 11, 1899


Amos was born in Ohio in 1839, and went to Illinois in in the spring of 1867. He was married November 17, 1869, to Miss Margaret Timmerman, a native of Ohio. She, with three sons and three daughters, are left to mourn.

He came to Kansas in the fall of 1876, first locating in Marion county. In 1881, he moved so section 8, Highland township, which was his home up to the time of his death.

He enlisted in 1861, for three months, in Company C, Third Ohio Infantry, and on the organization of the company was appointed corporal. On expiration of three months service, he enlisted for three years, and was commissioned second lieutenant of Company C, Eighteenth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and with this command went to the Department of the Cumberland, and was engaged at Stone River, Tullahoma and Chickamauga, and in the Atlanta campaign. After the battle of Stone River, he was promoted to First lieutenant, and after the fight at Tullahoma, to Captain. He was mustered out in 1864, at the close of service. He was an honored member of Judson Kilpatrick Post, G. A. R., which organization will have charge of the funeral. He was a good man, one who made the world better for his having lived in it, and whose demise will be a loss to the community.
