August Fluke, 81, pioneer Harvey county farmer, died Monday evening at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gurney McCorkle, in Sedgwick.
Born in Illinois, Mr. Fluke came with his parents, John and Victoria Fluke, to the Halstead community when he was six months old. He was married to Ollie Dunning of the Sedgwick community in 1903. His wife died in 1917.
Mr. Fluke farmed in Harvey county for more than 50 years and lived on a farm in Richland township for more than 40 years. He served as township trustee and as a member of the school board.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lucile McCorkle of Sedgwick; a son, Orville of Route 4, Valley Center; three brothers, Fred and John of Newton, and Will of Garnett; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Walton and Mrs. Emma Gates of Newton; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p. m. at Plymouth Congregational Church in Sedgwick. The Rev. William Penner will officiate and burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
