He came to Harvey county in 1878 and for several years lived on a farm in Pleasant township which he owned at the time of his death. He moved to Newton around 1890 and purchased a home at 304 East Third, and business property at Third and Main in which he operated a grocery store until 1921. He was also a Mason for more than forty years.
He was married to Anna Bourne and had three children, two daughters Edna and Charlotte, and a son Cameron.
