Charles H. Bourne

Kansan, Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1922

Charles Bourne was born at Sunbury, Pa., March 2, 1863, and died at Newton, Kansas, Feb. 16, 1922, aged 58 years, 11 months and 14 days.
At about fifteen years of age moved to Kansas with his parents and located on a farm three miles east of Newton.
On March 28, 1888 he was united in marriage to Louise Stone, who survives him. To this union three children, Irma at home, Charlotte wife of C.W. Lewellen and Claude who died in infancy.
In the spring of 1880 he moved to Newton and entered the employ of the Santa Fe R.R. In April 1899 he was injured and was taken to the Santa Fe Hospital at Topeka and since that time has never been in robust health, but was always willing to do whatever he was able to do and was extra librarian at the Santa Fe Reading Room in Newton, for several years.
In July of 1915, Mr. Busser superintendent of the Santa Fe Reading Room sent him to Clovis, New Mexico, to take charge of the reading room at that place.
In March 1918 he was transferred to a similar position at Dodge City and in Nov. 1918 was transferred back to Newton, which position he held until his death.
He leaves to morn his death his widow and two daughters, Irma and Charlotte, and two grandchildren Katherine Lewellen and C.J. Lewellen, and two sisters, Mrs. George Young and Mrs. L.G. Harlan both of this city.
