Elvin E. Walton "Gene"

HALSTEAD - Elvin E."Gene" Walton, 83, died Monday (June 4, 2007) at Halstead Health and Rehab in Halstead.


He was born on Feb. 3, 1924, in Newton to Harry and Cora (Foster) Walton. He married Dolores Nichols in Halstead in 1947, they were later divorced and she preceded him in death. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was the owner of the former Nash-Rambler dealership in Newton. He continued his career in automobiles owning an auto parts warehouse in Texas for many years prior to his retirement. He had a lifelong love of cars. He was a member of College Hill United Methodist Church and the Sedgwick American Legion.

Survivor include daughter, Cyndie (Walton) Ewy of Valley Center; a son, Jack Walton of Sterling; grandson; Jay and Kristen Ewy of Andover; granddaughters, Jennifer Ewy of Wichita; and Andrea Walton of Eudora; grandson, Jordan Walton of Sterling; an three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edith Marshall; and a brother Merle Walton.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sedgwick United Methodist Church in Sedgwick with Chaplain Peter Hartman officiating. A military graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be made to Sedgwick American Legion, Alzheimers Association or Hospice Care of Kansas in care of the funeral home.
