Helen W. Morgan, wife of J. W. Morgan, passed away, Saturday August 27, following an illness that had lingered almost six months.
She was born at Beardstown, Ill., March 16, 1873, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Loosley. She was brought to Kansas in 1876 when the family moved to a farm near Independence. There her schooling began and at an early age she joined the Presbyterian church.
Her father was a conductor on the Santa Fe and many railroad people in Newton knew him well. In 1892 the family moved to Wichita, Mrs. Morgan attending the high school in that city and later the Lewis academy, and becoming proficient in piano and painting.
She was married in Wichita, February 6, 1895, to john W. Morgan. After residences in several cities Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, and son Earl, came to Newton in 1912. Mr. Morgan having become proprietor of the Newton Steam Laundry. She took an active part in the work of the Presbyterian church of this city.
The funeral is to be held Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Presbyterian church, Rev. F. E. Black conducting, with interment in Greenwood Abbey.
Besides her husband, those of her immediate family who remain are her mother, Mrs. R. O. Loosley, Wichita, a sister, Mrs. Berta Mitchell, Multnoniah, Oregon, a son, E. A. Morgan, Salina, Kans., and grandsons, Edward and Albert Morgan.
