Newton Kansan, Monday, May 18, 1964 Robert Garritson Cornwell, 43, of 606 Allison died Saturday afternoon at Axtell Christian Hospital following a short illness. He was head flour packer at American Flours. Mr. Cornwell was born Feb. 4, 1921 in Richland, Mo., and had lived in Newton area for 36 years. He was married here July 26, 1941 to Lilla Brenneman. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Richland. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. Active in Masonic circles, Mr. Cornwell was a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge and the Royal Arch Masons, he was warder of the Newton Commandry of Knights Templar and worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Wichita Council of Royal and Select Masters. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Wichita. In addition to his widow, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. C. D. (Lee) Bruce of Newton. A son and daughter preceded their father in death. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Draper's Funeral Home. The Rev. Monroe Miles of the 1st Christian Church will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Masonic graveside services. Eastern Star services will be conducted at the funeral chapel. The body will lie in state there preceding the services.
