Republican Jan. 13,1890. After an illness of many months, resulting from army service, Mr. William Coulter passed away at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, in the sixty-ninth year of age. William Coulter came to Crawford county, Kansas May 17, 1871, and soon removed to Sedgwick county and settled near what is now Mulvane. In November, 1872, he came to Pleasant township, Harvey county, which was his home for three years, although his time was mostly spent in Newton after 1874. He was employed as clerk until July 22, 1881, when he engaged in the grocery business in partnership with C. B. Chapman. Mr. Coulter was born in Kittaning, Armstrong county, Pa., Oct. 7, 1821. In 1862 he enlisted in Company K. Thirty-fourth Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged in March, 1863, on account of disability caused by sickness. Mr. Coulter was married in Kittaning, Pa., Aug. 24,1845, to Vienna C. Adams, a native of Bedford county, Pa. He has been engaged in mercantile pursuits for several years. He was a man of deep religious feeling and much respected by those who enjoyed his acquaintance. He leaves a wife and two children in bereavement.
