Eve. Kansan Republican, 14 Aug., 1911 page 5
JOSEPH RICKMAN DIED YESTERDAY
Yesterday morning at ten o'clock, death came to Joseph Rickman at his home on West Ninth street, where he had been suffering for some weeks with inflammation of the bowels.
He had reached the very advanced age of eighty-nine years which with the intense heat made his chance of recovery all the more meager. The funeral service will be held from the home tomorrow tomorrow morning at ten o'clock and Judson Kilpatrick Post of Gar will have charge, he having been a member of that body since 1887.
Mr. Rickman served his country in Co. I of the 14th United States Colored Infantry from April 1864 to March 1866. He has been a resident of Newton for many years, and until the past few years had a shoe repairing shop.
He is survived by his wife, two sisters and a brother and a large family of sons, and a daughter, Mrs. William Downing.
