Mary Ruth Martindale Rickman was born October 22, 1872 on a farm near Liverpool, England, and departed this life at 4:15 p. m., at St. Francis Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she was a patient for only a few days. She was 71 years, 9 months and 12 days old.

Mrs. Rickman spent her childhood days on a farm. When she was 14 years old she came to the U.S.A. to work for a family. Very little is known of her until 1911 when she became the wife of Pat Rickman, a former brick and stone building contractor of Newton, who preceded her in death in 1926.

After the death of her husband, she worked as a private nurse having in her care, until their death, several of Newton's widely known and highly respected citizens.

She was always kind and loving, patriotic and charitable. Her friends were many and she was always ready and willing to help those who were unable to help themselves.

She leaves to mourn her passing two sisters and their children in England, a step-son, Lloyd Rickman and a step-daughter, Mrs. Hazel Rossiter of Newton.

She was a member of the Catholic Church. Funeral services were held August 9, 1943 at the St. Mary's Church with the Reverend Vincent Smith in charge. Pallbearers were: Clifford Rickman, Theodore Rickman, Patrick Rossiter, Guy Rossiter, Clark Anderson, and Clarence Paige. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
