Ray, Betty



Mrs. Luther A. Ray, who was Miss Betty Lou Simms before her marriage, passed away unexpectedly Friday night, October 6, at the Bethel hospital following an illness of several weeks. Betty Lou was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Simms of 116 East Eleventh. She was 20 years of age.
Betty Lou leaves her husband, an employee of Sharp Motor Co., her parents, and brothers and sister, Martin Jr., Anthony, Gregory, John, and Sondra, all of the home. She had been married for nearly a year, the date of their wedding October 9, 1938.
Active in colored Girl Scout troop as first lieutenant, Betty Lou was also a loyal member of the A. M. E. church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 10 at 2:00 at the A. M. E. church at eleventh and Oak Streets, with the Rev. M. Cremo of Wichita in charge. Burial will be made in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may see Betty Lou by calling at the Moody-Hinitt chapel anytime Sunday afternoon or evening. She will be taken to her home at 501 Duncan Street early Tuesday morning, before services at the church.
