The Newton Kansan

Kansan, Thursday, Feb. 16, 1888

Again does it become our sad and solemn duty to chronicle the sorrowful intelligence of the death of another of Newton's most highly honored and respected citizens. Mrs. Sadie Fugate, wife of Postmaster J. B. Fugate, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Redenbaugh, died at her home on North Main street this morning at ten o'clock, after a painful illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held at the family residence in accordance with notice to be given hereafter, Rev. Tutttle officiating. Friends of the family invited. Mrs. Fugate passed away in a placid and tranquil sleep and her spirit form wended its way calmly and peacefully to that world of joys beyond, where the cares vexations of an earthly life are forever at an end. She died a firm believer in Christianity, for she was a noble, self-sacrificing woman who lived only to lighten the burdens of life of those near and dear to her. She was a constant and devoted Christian who wielded a powerful influence among the members of her sex both in and out of the church. The many good acts and deeds that she accomplished in her earthly career will be kindly remembered and fondly cherished by her large circle of friends and others who knew her.She leaves a husband one son Floyd, father and mother, three brothers and one sister, Mrs. Verna Browning, who was at her bedside during her death, to mourn her sudden demise. A large circle of intimate friends and acquaintances who loved her tenderly and devotedly for her real worth, will follow her remains to the silent grave and drop a tear of bitter sorrow o'er the new-made tomb. To the bereaved ones we would extend our heartfelt sympathies and offer words of solace and comfort in the hour of their dire distress.
