James Felix Furlong, son of J. W. and Martha Furlong, was born January 3. 1878 at Halsted, Kans., and died June 22, 1940 in Powell, Wyo.
He spent his early life on his father's farm near Halstead. On October 26, 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Spell of Halstead. To this union three children were born, Zua, who preceded her father in death, and Clifton and Ralph, who are in the service. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Nora Cathcart, and one granddaughter, Sandra Furlong.
The family resided in Newton for 18 years before moving to Powell in 1924. Mr. Furlong was a member of the masonic lodge of Powell, which organization conducted funeral rites in Powell, assisted by Rev. H. Clare Walker, pastor of the Union Presbyterian church of Powell.
Mr. Furlaong was brought to Newton and services were conducted Thursday afternoon in the Duff and Son parlors with Rev. Logan Martin, pastor of the First Christian church officiating. Pallbearers were John Devers, Frank Trouslot, Roy Sanner, J.D. Nicholson, Art Saylor and Bert Shifflet. Burial was in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery.
