Franz Kater - - Obituary
Franz Kater, son of David and Elizabeth (Fichnau) Kater was born Nov. 11, 1866 in Dusseldorf, Germany in the part lies in the British zone of Germany, and passed away at the Bethel Deaconess hospital in Newton, March 3, 1948, having reached the age 81 years, three months and 12 days.
His early days were spent, like so many others at the time, seeking a better and more pleasant place in which to live, with the result that in 1900 they came to America, locating in Harvey County, On October 31, 1891 he was united in marriage to Maria Urban and to this union seven children were born. They lived on their farm in Harvey county until he retired 15 years ago and since that time they have made their home in Newton, He had been troubled with his hearing the past several years but other than that he had been in good health up until the time of this last illness.
He had been a member of the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church in Newton for many years.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Maria Kater, seven children; Henry Kater, Albuquerque, N.M.; Frank Kater, Walton; Carl Kater, Anna Kater, Mrs Earl Wright, Mrs. Chester Lolmaugh and Mrs. George Mull, all of Newton; also 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church Friday 5, at 2:30 p.m., with his pastor, Rev. D. Buchmueller officiating. Elsie Nellissen and Edith Nellissen sang: "No Night Three" and " Asleep in Jesus," they were accompanied by Miss Linda Klein at the piano. Casket bearers were George Peters, John Botterwick, Gottlieb Mull, Theo, Nellissen, William Dunkelberger and Albert Kater. Interment was made in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery by Rex M. Moody of the Moody's Funeral Home.
