Crabill, Robert

The Newton Kansan

Robert Wayne Crabill died Friday (July 17, 2009) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. He was born on Jan. 2, 1928, in Ewing, Mo., to Frank and Nellie Mae Crabill. They preceded him in death. He attended Ewing Schools and, upon graduation, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served as an apprentice seaman. He married Norma Waterfall on July 30, 1950, in Whitewater. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on July 30. She survives of the home. Robert worked in the aircraft industry as a jig builder for Boeing, Cessna and Raytheon. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and past commander of the Whitewater American Legion-William P. Phillips-Post 65. He was an active participant in the American Legion’s parade floats and pancake feeds. He had a strong love for his country and was proud to have served it. He was a good fisherman. He is survived by wife, Norma Crabill of Newton; two sons, Charles L. Crabill and wife, Sandy, of Oceanside, Calif., and Dale Crabill and wife, Robin, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Kimberly Willems and husband John, of Whitewater; a brother, Loren Crabill of Killeen, Texas; and two sisters, Thelma Twente of Illinois and Margaret McMillian of Kansas City, Mo. He had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Crabill, and sister, Myrtle Cadwallder. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials have been set up with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and American Legion–Post 65.
