Thiesen, Delbert
Delbert D. Thiesen, 68, passed away in his home on Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2010).
He was born on Aug. 18, 1942, to the late Daniel and Esther Thiesen. Delbert was a machinist at Hesston Corp. (AGCO) for many years, but was best known in the Goessel community as a scrap metal buyer and junk hauler. He spoke often and fondly of his younger years working on a relative’s custom harvesting crew, and traveling with them from Texas to Montana. One of his favorite hobbies was attending farm auctions, and he was known by all the local auctioneers who often would call him to tell him that they had sold him a piece of machinery at an auction he did not even attend. In his later years, he enjoyed buying and selling antique car parts, concentrating primarily on Ford Model T’s and A’s. He found great joy in attending swap meets to buy and sell parts, and had an extensive collection of early Ford history and literature.
He was the fifth of six children; the rest survive. He also is survived by two sons; two daughters; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son.
He will be greatly missed by all who cherish him. Services celebrating Delbert’s life are pending.
