Obituary

Arthur Janzen, 95, died Monday (July 12, 2010) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was born on Sept. 21, 1914, in Hillsboro, to Benjamin and Eva (Foth) Janzen. On May 29, 1938, he married Malinda Schmidt in Lehigh. He attended Hillsboro High School and was a member of Hesston United Methodist Church. He worked as an auto mechanic for King Motor Co. for many years and owned and operated J & S Auto Repair until 1976. He worked part time as a mechanic for the city of Hesston until 1983, and was a volunteer fireman in Hesston for 31 years. Art and his wife also owned and operated the Village Motel in Hesston until they sold it in 1972. Art was active in Boy Scouts and enjoyed traveling with his wife. They belonged to the Hidden Valley Association near Mapleton, where Art enjoyed fishing and camping. Family was very important to Art, and he enjoyed spending time with his loving family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Malinda (Schmidt) Janzen of Hesston; daughter, Judy Hess of Greeley, Colo.; daughter-in-law, LaVonne Janzen of Newton; sister, Evelyn Fullmer of Derby; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, Jim Janzen and Raymond Janzen; brothers, Harry, Allen, Roy and Ira Janzen; father, Benjamin Janzen; and mother, Eva (Foth) Janzen. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Schowalter Villa Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Schowalter Villa Chapel, with Chaplain Wendy Miller presiding. Burial will be at Hesston City Cemetery in Hesston. Memorials may be given to the Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
