Janzen, James

James Allen Janzen, 54, died Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2007) at his home in Hesston. He was born on Sept. 9, 1952, in Newton to Arthur and Malinda (Schmidt) Janzen. On Nov. 6, 2004, he married Lavonne (Reimer) in Hesston. They shared two and half wonderful years. He was employed by AGCO, but his real love was his family "Everything was Family." He was a very patient and loving "Papa" to the grandchildren and a loving spouse and father. He was a man with a great sense of humor, very playful, patient and a genuine "nice guy." He was very supportive of people and showed genuine care and interest for their problems and concerns. He loved cars, the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening because it allowed him to be outside. He was a handy man who always tried to do things himself. He will be greatly missed by his wife and children and they will remember his love and care for them. Survivors include his wife; his parents; a son, Wesley and Shana Janzen of Manhattan; daughters, Monica and David Cooper of Seward, Alaska, Lylyan Janzen of Hesston and Amy Poteet of Metarie, La.; a sister, Judy and Don Hess of Greeley, Colo.; a son, Andrew Hook of Kidron, Ohio; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Janzen and a grandson, Kristopher Richards. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Pastor Michael Whitworth with Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at Hesston City Cemetery in Hesston. Memorials may be made to Angel Flight in care of the funeral home.
