Oswald, C J

C.J. Oswald, 71, died Dec. 12, 2001, at his residence in Newton. He was born Oct. 1, 1930, at Tecumseh, the son of Carl and Mildred E. Edwards Oswald. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 15 years and had served in the U.S. military. He attended First Church of the Nazarene, Newton, and a was life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Masonic Lodge No. 142 AF and AM. On May 6, 1955, he married Judith J. Brainard at Moundridge. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, John W., Benton, and Richard, Newton; two brothers, William "Woody" Oswald, Newton, and John Stucky, Moundridge; two sisters, Gloria Schrag, McPherson, and Wanita Schrag, Hesston; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Pringle. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, with the Rev. Bernie Dickson presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to First Church of the Nazarene, Newton, in care of the funeral home.
