Joe A. Unruh, 80, retired farmer and custodian for Halstead schools, died Tuesday (Sept. 28, 2010) at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born on Nov. 6, 1929, in Halstead, to Noah T. and Carrie (Jantzen) Unruh. He was a member of Grace Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church in Halstead. On June 4, 1950, he married Della F. Koehn in Newton; she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Roy (Patricia) Unruh and Marlin (Raeletta) Unruh of Halstead; daughters, Barbara Ellen of Tucson, Ariz., and Rochelle (Doyle) Becker of Wharton, Texas; brother, Melvin (Norma) Unruh of Macon, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Verlin Unruh; and sisters, Lorena Becker, Esther Johnson, Alma Dirks, Eva Wiens and Hazel Jantz.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church in Halstead with Ministers Kenneth Smith, Stanley Wiggers, Raleigh Koehn and Dean Becker presiding. Interment will follow at Halstead Cemetery in Halstead. Memorials may be given to the Gospel Tract and Bible Society or Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
