Lorraine Nelson, 93, of Newton, died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2000) at Presbyterian Manor.


She was born Oct. 8, 1906, in rural Newton to Milton and Lottie Royer. She married Everett Nelson in Lexington, Neb. He preceded her in death Jan. 9, 1973.

She attended school in Newton, Manhattan and Bethel College, where she graduated with a degree in English and home economics. She taught in Lexington, Neb.

In 1943 she moved to Towanda. She was active in her community. She taught schools at Benton, Towanda and Oil Hill, retiring in 1979.

Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Nelson of New York; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Royer and Merritt Royer.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Kaufmann from Golden Plains Free Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established with Bethel College Scholarship Fund for Women in care of the funeral home.
