Obituary

John Lawrence Kliewer died on Monday (Oct. 4, 2010) in Wichita.

He was born on July 30, 1939, in Newton, to Paul and Maurine (Fugate) Kliewer. He married Glenda Abney on Dec. 18, 1984, in Marion County. She survives in the home. John was retired from Westar Energy/KGE. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, the Harvey County Hawks (KU) and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a former chairman of the board of the historical society.

John loved his good companion, a pet poodle, named Buddy. John was ill for the last two years. Glenda and John both believed that “there has to be a morning after.”

John is survived by his wife, Glenda Kliewer; children, John Parker, Kimberly Parker and Liz and Colin McGuire of Wichita; brother-in-law, Robert and Mona Abney; uncle, John F. King of Newton; sister, Jane and Darrel Munsell of Carbondale, Colo.; grandchildren, Francie Penner and Abbie Wenger; and his pet poodle, “Buddy.” He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no services at this time. A memorial service will be in Pitkin County, Colo., on July 30 to celebrate his life.
