Parrott, Fredonia

The Newton Kansan

Fredonia “Fritz” Anderson Parrott passed away on Sept. 29, 2010, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

Fritz was born on Sept. 23, 1921, to Temple (T.D.) and Eva Anderson in Emporia. The family moved to Winfield later to make their home. Fritz grew up and was educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1939 and attending Southwestern College for one year. She then went to beauty school in Wichita and worked as a beautician for several years.

In Wichita, she met her husband, Ray Parrott, and was married on Aug. 30, 1942, celebrating 68 years of marriage this past August. During World War II, she lived in Coffeyville while her husband was stationed there in the Army Air Corps. They returned to Wichita and established their home until they both moved to Kansas Christian Home in Newton in 2006. She joined Broadway Christian Church in 1949, and held many leadership positions within the church, participating in the church’s outreach programs, particularly the food pantry and ministering for the elderly. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and family gatherings. She worked as receptionist and switchboard operator of Santa Fe Transportation Co. in Wichita for 37 years, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include her husband, Ray; son, Jerry Parrott (Deanne) of Oklahoma City; daughter, Linda (Frank) Galloway of Andover; sister, Charlotte (Melvin) Lawrence of Winfield; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark; sister, Lena Mitchell; and granddaughter, Samantha Galloway.

A celebration service was at the Broadway Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Memorials have been established with Legacy of John in care of Kansas Christian Home, 1035 S.E. Third St., Newton, KS 67114 and New Hope Christian Church (formerly Broadway Christian Church), 1400 S. George Washington Blvd., Wichita, KS 67211. Services were by Broadway Mortuary in Wichita.
