Jahay, Thebe



Thebe Jahay, 89, passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 5, 2010) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of Daniel Hamway and Fatima Abdul Hamway. She worked at Hesston Child Care for 15 years. In 1940, she married Emmett Jahay in Luverne, Minn. He passed away in March 1978.

She is survived by sons, Sammy (Helen) of Ellinwood, Feisal (Ellen) of Hesston, Ghazi (Denise) of Ellinwood, and Alex (Kristi) of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Azizi (Lowell) Lygrisse of Towanda, and Emily (Allen) Hughes of Wichita; brothers, Albert of Stockton, Calif., and Dale of Sioux Falls; sisters, Bedia Compton of Stockton and Beauty Huge of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Nellie Hamway; and brother, Sammy Hamway.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Schowalter Villa Chapel, with Chaplain Wendy Miller officiating. Graveside service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Caring Fund in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster St., Hesston, KS 67062.
